How to Save Internet Explorer's "Favorites" List

Exporting Favorites List

1. Open Internet Explorer on the machine that has the list of Favorites you want to move.

2. Click on File

3. Click on Import and Export...

4. This will open the Import/Export Wizard. Click Next on this screen.

5. Under the box that says Choose an action to perform, click on Export Favorites. On the right side of the screen, under Description, it should say "Export favorites to another browser or file".

6. Click Next

7. You will see a Export Favorites Source Folder section. Here you will select which folders you want to export. To export ALL favorites, click on the Favorites folder to highlight it. When you have the folder you wish to export, then click Next

8. This window will show 2 selections, Export to an Application or Export to a File or Address. Place a dot in Export to a File or Address. The box under this selection will open, allowing you to type the path to where you wish to save the Favorites list. If you don't know what the path is, click on the Browse... button.

9. A Select Bookmark File window will open, allowing you to chose where you want to save the file. Since the Favorites file needs to go to a different computer, the file should be saved on a floppy disk.

10. To save the file on a floppy disk, under Save In, click on the arrow pointing down. This will bring up a list of different areas to save in. Select 3 1/2 floppy (A:). That will access the floppy disk, showing you what is on the floppy disk already.

11. At the bottom of the window, it says File Name:. It should already have bookmark.htm listed here. This is the name of the Favorites file. Just click the Save button and that window will close, taking you back to the Export Favorites Destination window. In the Export to a File or Address box, it should say A:\bookmark.htm Click Next.

12. This will bring you to the Finish page. Just click Finish, it will save the file to the floppy disk and tell you it Successfully Exported Favorites. Click Ok and close Internet Explorer.

Importing Favorites List

1. Open Internet Explorer on the machine that has the list of Favorites you want to move.

2. Click on File

3. Click on Import and Export...

4. This will open the Import/Export Wizard. Click Next on this screen.

5. Under the box that says Choose an action to perform, click on Import Favorites. On the right side of the screen, under Description, it should say "Import Favorites from another browser or file".

6. Click Next

7. This window will show 2 selections, Export to an Application or Export to a File or Address. Place a dot in Import from a File or Address. The box under this selection will open, allowing you to type the path to where you wish to save the Favorites list. If you don't know what the path is, click on the Browse... button.

8. A Select Bookmark File window will open, allowing you to chose where the favorites list is on the floppy disk. Since the Favorites file was saved on a floppy disk, this file will be on the floppy disk.

9. To get the file from the floppy disk, under Save In, click on the arrow pointing down. This will bring up a list of areas to open. Select 3 1/2 floppy (A:). That will access the floppy disk, showing you what is on the floppy disk already.

10. The box in the middle of the page will display the files saved on the floppy disk already. You will see a file named bookmark.htm. Click on this file once.

11. At the bottom of the window, it says File Name:. It should have bookmark.htm listed here now. Click on the Save button and that window will close, taking you back to the Import Favorites Source window.

12. In the Import from a File or Address box, it should say A:\bookmark.htm Click Next.

13. The window that opens says Import Favorites Destination Folder. Here is where you will select where you want to put the favorites list. Just click on the Favorites folder, then click Next.

14. Click Finish and it will tell you it Successfully Imported Favorites. Click Ok and close Internet Explorer.
