Spam Filtering for Entermail.Net
In the past two weeks we've received great feedback and praise regarding
our new webmail system on Entermail.Net. The biggest concern that we did
hear was regarding the amount of SPAM, or junk e-mail, that some of our
customers are receiving in their Entermail.Net accounts. Because of this,
we have adapted the Enter.Net SPAM filter so that Entermail.Net accounts
are now able to be filtered as well.
This service is an optional service, so it is "OFF" by default. If you

FEATURES
Rule Sets: The new SPAM filter uses a huge database of different rules
that help determine if a message is SPAM or not. Each rule is assigned a
score and a message is considered SPAM if the total score exceeds a
specific value, which is controlled by the "Filter Level" you choose in
the control panel. Because no single rule will determine if a message is
SPAM, a message will need to have multiple characteristics of SPAM e-mail
to be marked as SPAM. This helps prevent legitimate e-mails from being
marked as SPAM.
White Lists: This section of the SPAM filter allows you to specify those
contacts with whom you regularly correspond via e-mail. If you were to
enter a friend's e-mail address into this section, any messages from that
person would automatically be considered a legitimate message so you do
not need to worry about messages from friends, family, or mailing lists
being marked as SPAM.
Black Lists: The opposite of the white lists described above, you can
specify e-mail addresses that always send you SPAM. Sick of getting SPAM
from free_money@example.com? You can add that address to the SPAM filter's
black list and the filter will know that you consider any e-mail from them
to be SPAM.
Bayesian Filtering: This type of filtering is one of the hottest new
solutions in SPAM filtering technology, because it results in SPAM
filtering that catches 95% of all SPAM messages. Bayesian filtering learns
from e-mail messages what words typically appear in legitimate e-mails and
which ones typically appear in SPAM messages. Every word is assigned a
probability of being a SPAM word and filtering is based on the amount of
"spammy" words in a message.
LOGGING IN FOR THE FIRST TIME
As a first time user of the new SPAM filter, we recommend you set your
settings as follows:
Filter: On
Filter Level: Normal
Filter Safety: On
Bayesian Filtering: On
To save these changes, simply click "Save Settings".
This particular configuration is Enter.Net's recommended configuration.
Through our own internal testing, this configuration provides the highest
amount of SPAM protection with the smallest chance of legitimate messages
being lost. Please note, with the "Filter Safety" turned on, messages that
the filter considers SPAM will not be deleted, but will instead have the
tag "[SPAM]" added to the subject like so: "[SPAM] Refinance your
mortgage!" This will allow you to see which messages the filter considers
SPAM without actually having it delete mail for you.
After you have enabled the filter with these settings, please feel free to
read the provided help documentation by clicking on any of the question
mark icons. This help document will give you more information about each
particular section of the SPAM filter and will allow you to customize it
to best fit your particular situation.
