Using Housecall to scan for Viruses
Internet Explorer and type into the Address Bar http://housecall.trendmicro.com
and press Enter. (You can also click on the previous link if
you so choose)
Under "Scan Your PC" click on the link that says "Scan Now. It's Free!
“Please Select Your Location”, click on the Drop Box, select United States
and click on the Go button.
4. Housecall will then begin downloading the updates onto your
computer. This may take a while to finish but once it's finished it will show you the drives you
can scan on your computer.
want to put a checkmark in the box in front of the Local Disk (C:) and then click the "SCAN" button
to the right. This
will open another window showing you the amount of files scanned and below that
a list of all the viruses it detects. The scan may take a while to run depending on
how many files are on your computer.
the scan finishes you'll want to select all of the viruses it detects and then
click on the "Clean" button.
Any files that Housecall is
unable to clean you'll then want to click on the Delete button and try removing
them from the computer.
Once that finishes click on the "Close" button. It will bring up another window asking if you
really want to close. Click on
"Yes" and it will bring you back to the main page.
Using SARC to scan for Viruses
Open Internet Explorer and type into the Address Bar
http://www.symantec.com and press Enter. (You can also click the previous link if
you so choose)
Once the page loads click the Virus Removal Tools link under the heading "Need Protection?" in the upper right hand side of the page.
In the next screen click the Scan for Viruses link in the upper right hand side (located directly under the Symantec ThreatCon section).
This will then open a separate window that says
"Symantec Security Check" in the center with a "GO" button
below it. Click on the "GO" button.
This will open another separate window. Under
"Virus Detection", click on the "Start" button.
SARC requires ActiveX Controls to be installed in order
to run. It may bring up a Blue Shield
with a Question Mark.
on this once and select "Install ActiveX". Then another window will open asking you to
install Symantec Utilities.

window will open asking you to install Virus Detection. Click the "Install" button.
another window will open asking you to install Virus Definitions. Click the "Install" button. These may take a while to install on your
computer but you'll want to allow this to finish.
It will then start scanning your computer for
viruses. The scan may take a while to
run depending on how many files are on your computer. Once this finishes it will show you a list of
the viruses it finds on your computer.
Write down the name of the virus and click on the "Symantec
Security Response" link. Then click
on the link on the left that says "View all virus threats". In the screen that opens you'll type the name
of the virus into the search bar and press Enter. This will show you the virus
that is on the computer and if you click on the link of the Virus name it will
bring up a page describing the virus and give you information on it. Scroll down the page and look for the section
that says "removal instructions".
This will give you instructions on how to remove the virus from your
computer. Follow these directions to
remove the virus.
