OE Removed Access to the Following Unsafe Attachments
In the newest version of Outlook Express, Microsoft has added a number of new features that are intended to protect you against viruses that may be transmitted through e-mail messages. However, one of these features prevents you from opening most, if not all, legitimate attachments that may be sent to you.
If you attempt to open an attachment, and the name of the attachment is grayed out, or you receive an error message similar to "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: file_name1" this behavior is because of the new security features in Outlook Express.
You can disable this feature in the following way:
Open Outlook Express
Click Tools
Click Options
Click Security
Uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"
Click OK
