We wanted to take a moment to make you aware of a dangerous new computer
virus -- Sober.O. This virus spreads by sending an e-mail that claims to
be from Enter.Net and recommends that you open an attached file or your
account will be suspended. The fake e-mails have subjects such as
"Re:Your email was blocked" or "Account and Password Information are
attached." Don't be fooled! Those messages are not coming from Enter.Net.
HOW SOBER.O CAN DAMAGE YOUR COMPUTER
The Sober.O virus can have two horrible effects on your computer.
- It uses your computer to send out more copies of itself to every
e-mail address it can find on your computer. It searches in your address
book, saved letters, and hundreds of other files. This means that if
you've become infected, your computer is trying to infect your friends,
family, and associates!
- The Sober.O virus can also download other viruses directly to your
computer without your knowledge. One such virus is the "Ascetic.C" virus
which will then use your computer to send thousands of political SPAM
e-mails.
Because of these two effects, if your computer is infected with Sober.O,
it can cause your computer to slow down considerably. You may have
problems opening and using your word processor, favorite games, and even
your e-mail program. And remember, there is no way to tell what other
devastating viruses it will download to your computer.
PREVENTION
If you receive this, or any other e-mail, that claims to be from someone
you know and urges you to open an attachment, we recommend that you
verify with the sender first that they did send you an attachment. In
the case of messages that claim to come from Enter.Net, please feel free
to contact our support department with any questions or concerns.
